Urethane Flooring Systems
Urethane systems are well suited to washdown, thermal shock and abrasion in production areas.
Explore urethane flooringMaking the right flooring choice in a food or beverage facility is critical to safety, and cleanliness is the key. Pacific Coast Contracting installs seamless floor coatings for food and beverage plants.
The floor must be seamless and impervious to prevent bacteria and microbes from building up in cracks, crevices or joints, and it must stand up to the wide array of cleaning chemicals used on it. It should have an anti-slip finish and resist abrasion, impact and changing thermal conditions, and it should slope toward drains to promote drainage and reduce pooling. Anti-microbial additives can add another layer of protection from harmful microbes.

Each system is selected for the chemicals, traffic, temperatures and cleaning in the area. Performance depends on the system, preparation, exposure and maintenance.

Food processing floors need to be seamless, impervious, slip resistant and able to handle cleaning chemicals, impact and temperature changes. Urethane systems and troweled urethane mortars are commonly used in wet processing areas, with epoxy in drier areas. Pacific Coast Contracting recommends a system based on each area's conditions.
Floors that slope toward drains move water and cleaning solutions off the surface, reducing pooling that can create slip hazards and places for bacteria to grow. Slope is designed into the floor, and in some cases a troweled mortar can help correct it. Pacific Coast Contracting considers drainage when planning food and beverage floors.
It depends on the plant. Some projects can be phased so production continues in other areas, while others need a full shutdown. Cure times, odor and sanitation requirements all affect the plan. Pacific Coast Contracting works around production schedules and plant guidelines when sequencing the work.
